Book Review: My First Book of Prayers

My First Book of Prayers. Illustrated by Gillian Flint, WorthyKids/Ideals, 2018

This small little board b9780824916831.jpgook collects ten short prayers from various authors, including Ralph Waldo Emerson. Many of the prayers are from “Author Unknown,” but these are some of the more familiar prayers, such as the “Now I lay me down to sleep” prayer.

The illustrations by Gillian Flint are soft and comforting watercolors. Newly illustrated and reformatted from its previous edition, this book makes a great addition to the family library. The illustrations include a diverse group of children and not just skin color. There are children with glasses and a boy in a wheelchair.

Prayer is an important practice in the Christian life, and for the family. It warms my heart when our three-year-old is playing and we glance over and she is praying. This little book is a great way to introduce children to the spiritual practice of prayer.

Thanks to the publisher for a review copy.
